Thomas’ Full Story

Hi my name is Thomas Lickteig. I have been overweight for most of my life. Three years ago I weighed 425 pounds. I finally decided that I needed to do something about my weight. I started working out and eventually got down to 280 pounds. I was feeling great in all aspects of my life but suddenly I was hit with a curveball. During my time of need, I turned to food, the only thing I knew would give me comfort. I shut down and ended up gaining all the weight back. I started researching weight loss surgery and its pros and cons. I was excited to find out that my insurance was going to start covering the procedure. There was one requirement and that was to attend the Mindful Eating Class in the Mind Over Eating Program. In the beginning, I would try to implement one learning every week. At first it was not easy but I told myself I wouldn’t give up. In time, the learnings from each class started to click and it was fun. I was learning lots of things about food that I never knew before. I learned about the hormones in foods that can reproduce within one’s body. It was these little gems of knowledge that pushed me through my weight loss struggle. The Mind Over Eating Program also taught me that I was important.  I am a single parent and I have always put my kids’ needs before mine. I realized that I needed to take some time and make some room for me. I needed to concentrate on myself. I now know that if I can make myself happy in all aspects of life then that will transcend onto others. We all are going to stumble and have a lapse in judgment, but we don’t have to struggle all the time. I truly believe that this program provides the tools needed to start your journey and help you succeed.  I have just finished attending the last class of the Mind Over Eating Program and I have lost 65 pounds since I started the program. Thank you so much Prudence and Rachel. Thanks to you I am well on my way to a healthier lifestyle.
